Voices of Silicon Valley present a rare performance of a seminal Karlheinz Stockhausen’s work in the San Francisco Bay area. As the timing of its composition approximates San Francisco’s “Summer of Love”, Stimmung aligns itself with its ideals of universal love, religious unity, and meditation. It is accomplished through the deeply meditative nature of the work as well as the use of a variety of Magic Names that come from many different world religion traditions.
In the first half of the program VOSV will present Missa Luba, a 15-minute piece that combines traditional Mass text with African rhythms and drums, as well as Kontakion by our Artistic Director Cyril Deaconoff which combines Eastern Orthodox melodies with Cuban jazz rhythms.
